Drayton's an interesting suburb to work in because you never quite know what you're walking into until you open the meter box. You've got these gorgeous old sandstone and timber places near the Brisbane Street heritage precinct — some of them not far from the Royal Bull's Head Inn — and then a few streets over you're in solid 1960s and 70s brick homes. The wiring situation inside those two property types is completely different, and both keep you on your toes.

The older heritage buildings are the ones that really slow you down, and rightfully so. You can't just pull cables through walls the way you would in a newer place. There's original timber, decorative cornices, things you don't want to damage. Homeowners are usually pretty protective of that character, and they should be. It takes more planning and more care.

What catches a lot of Drayton homeowners off guard is how common the older fuse-type installations still are around here, even in the more modest suburban houses.
